Opta predictions for Premier League standings
Below, according to our friends at statistics company Opta, is the percentage of each team that finished in each position.
Who will win the Premier League title?
The title race will once again be between Arsenal and Manchester City, and it's clear that this season could be the one where Arsenal finally overtakes City and wins the title. Two of the three writers expect Liverpool to finish third, and while they will likely do reasonably well, there is definitely a top two in the Premier League.
Who will qualify for the Champions League?
The top four are very close, with Manchester United and Tottenham strengthening their squads, while Liverpool have a similar squad but have seen big changes with the departure of Jurgen Klopp and the arrival of Arne Slott. Aston Villa and Newcastle are also in the mix, but two of our three writers expect Eddie Howe's team to bounce back strongly from last season's injury-hit devastation and expect Newcastle to finish in the top four.
Who will have a bad season?
We expect Chelsea to struggle and finish the season far outside the top four, with new players and a new manager (Enzo Maresca) arriving at Stamford Bridge again and everything being a bit of a mess. We expect Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth to fall back, while Brighton, Crystal Palace and Fulham are noteworthy as they have all lost big names this summer and Wolves' small squad has already been hit by injuries.
Which teams will be relegated from the Premier League this season?
The relegation battle, well, will be extremely tough for the three new signings. Leicester City have a new manager in Steve Cooper and the Foxes could be punished for their financial problems. Ipswich Town are solid but may not be good enough to stay, like Luton were last season. Southampton have made some interesting signings and look to be the team with the best chance of staying. Two of our writers think Nottingham Forest will be relegated, but Brentford are the team to watch as they continue to try to figure out what to do about Ivan Toney's situation.
