800 plus will be paid for each child as long as I am in charge of this government; there are no limits, there will be no restrictions – Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Tuesday.
At the conference on Tuesday after the meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister was asked about the future of the 800 plus program.
“Nothing that is given is taken away”
– Do not be fooled by the fact that they want (…) to convince the Poles that if I am the prime minister, it means that I will carry something (…). Tusk assured that nothing given will be taken away.
He added that as long as he is responsible for government work, each child will be paid PLN 800 plus. – There is no standard, there is no limit – he said.
He added that since then 500 plus has become 800 plus and it is his government that has taken the “sweet burden” of paying this allowance every month. – Nothing will change here – he said.
He pointed to the words of the deputy head of the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy, Aleksandra Gajewska, that the program “800 plus” and other social programs have not yet contributed to the improvement of the number of births in Poland.
– This program also has other tasks, other goals – first of all, to lift hundreds of thousands of families with children out of poverty, especially Polish families with many children, – stressed the Prime Minister.
800 plus
In October, the Seimas adopted the report of the Council of Ministers on the implementation of the 500 plus Act for 7 years (2016-2023). Government analysis shows the introduction of Child Benefit has had a “significant impact” on reducing child poverty, but this has been somewhat offset by rising inflation in 2022-2023. The government emphasized that the increase in the allowance from PLN 500 to PLN 800 per child is to counter the effects of this increase. The effects of this change are expected to be seen in 2024.
However, the government noted in the report that the Family 500 plus program had a very limited effect on births: it probably only contributed to a small increase in births in the first years after the aid was introduced.
