The Cleveland Browns officially ended their one preseason game with a 23-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.
Despite the loss, there was a lot of reason for optimism – many of our young players stepped up and played well – but we also had some very disappointing results in our first games.
One player who was very disappointing was 2023 third-round draft pick Siaki Ika.
Ika, a defensive tackle who played college football at Baylor University, was a major weakness for the defense when he was on the field and performed very poorly.
Now, that performance has Dawg Pound Daily urging the Browns to cut ties with Ika.
“At this point, we've had enough of Ika, and the Browns' best bet might be to put Briggs on the field and let him develop into the point-stopper they hope Ika will be.”
Ika barely played in his rookie season last year, appearing in just four games and recording his only grade in passes defensed.
At 6-foot-3 and 335 pounds, Ika was expected to be a key piece of the line in defense against the run. He was an intimidating presence in college, but that hasn't translated to the NFL so far.
It's always a tough decision to take the next step so quickly from a third-round draft pick, but the criticism is warranted given what he's accomplished this first year and in his first preseason game.
Hopefully the second week of the preseason goes better for him, if not it seems likely he will be waived before the regular season.
