Chinese automaker Siker has said its new electric vehicle (EV) batteries charge faster than any of its rivals, including industry leader Tesla.
The company says the upgraded battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent capacity in 10.5 minutes using an ultra-fast charging station.
By comparison, Elon Musk's Tesla says its Model 3 can travel 175 miles (282 km) on a 15-minute charge, just under half the car's total range.
Zeekr's 2025 007 sedan, which goes on sale next week, will be the company's first vehicle to feature the new battery.
“Tesla's charging technology is no longer industry-leading, and has been for some time,” said Tu Le, founder and managing director of consulting firm Sino Auto Insights.
“These bold claims from Zeekr are credible, but more importantly, even if this isn't the fastest charging EV battery, it's still a big leap for them to be one of the fastest.”
The company claims the battery also performs well in cold climates, being able to charge from 10% to 80% of its capacity in under 30 minutes in temperatures as low as -10°C.
BBC News has contacted Tesla for its reaction to the G'Kar announcement.
Zeekr is owned by Chinese auto giant Geely, which also owns British-based luxury sports car brand Lotus and Sweden's Volvo.
In May, Zeekr's shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange, marking the first major U.S. market listing by a Chinese company since 2021.
The list was released just days before the Biden administration announced significant tariff hikes on Chinese-made products including electric vehicles, solar panels and steel.
The White House said the measures, which include a 100% border tax on electric vehicles from China, are a response to unfair policies and are aimed at protecting American jobs.
Officials in the United States, the European Union and other major auto markets have grown increasingly concerned about the rapid expansion of Chinese EV companies overseas.
