One of the largest U.S. utilities aims to become a clean energy leader with the help of AspenTech’s digital grid management software.
BEDFORD, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aspen Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:AZPN), a global leader in industrial software, today announced an expanded strategic partnership with Omaha Public Power Department (OPPD) to support the department's net-zero carbon production goal by 2050. AspenTech will provide its Digital Grid Management (DGM) software suite to monitor, intelligently schedule and control distributed energy resources (DERs) on OPPD's grid while maintaining reliability for 5,000 square miles and a population of 885,000 in the state of Nebraska.
OPPD uses the AspenTech OSI Distributed Energy Resources Management System™ for both its transmission and distribution operations to plan and manage its DER assets within a single platform. The solution is a key component of AspenTech's DGM suite and is integrated with AspenTech's generation, transmission, advanced distribution management and outage management systems to provide utilities with comprehensive real-time control and optimization of the entire grid.
“OPPD sees an incredible opportunity ahead of us to be a leader in decarbonization as we move toward net-zero carbon production by 2050,” said Doug Peterczak, director of enterprise operations technology at OPPD. “Renewable energy can be unpredictable, so we need technology that can precisely optimize DERs, including flexible loads, to help us make great strides toward our clean energy goals while ensuring we continue to provide uninterrupted, reliable service to our communities.”
“Large utilities like OPPD need a secure, enterprise-grade platform that can meet the new demands brought on by the energy transition and their expanding customer base,” said Sally Jackmin, vice president and general manager of AspenTech's power and utilities division. “Seamless integration across AspenTech's DGM suite gives OPPD the transparency and flexibility they need across their operations teams to ensure grid resilience while moving toward a more sustainable future.”
The selection of AspenTech’s DGM software to support OPPD’s net-zero carbon production goals marks the latest milestone in the companies’ six-year partnership.
