CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The U.S. U-20 Women's National Team, including North Carolina lacrosse player Kate Levy, is set to compete in the 2024 World Lacrosse Women's U-20 Championship in Hong Kong this week.
The 10-day, 20-team tournament will officially kick off on Thursday, August 15, with the United States opening pool play on August 16. The Opening Ceremony will take place on Wednesday at Mong Kok Stadium, which will also host the semi-finals (August 22) and final (August 24).
Levy was selected to the final 22-man roster in July after a series of training camps. She is one of just two college freshmen to represent the Stars and Stripes.
Levy was named the Girls High School Player of the Year, the Mid-Atlantic Girls Player of the Year and the Baltimore Sun All-Metro Player of the Year. She is a two-time All-American.
The two-way midfielder from Chapel Hill spent his junior and senior years at McDonough School in Maryland. In 2024, he led the Eagles with 48 goals, 17 assists, 128 draws and 22 turnovers. The 48 goals came on 76 shots for a shooting percentage of 63 percent. He recorded 55 more draw controls than he did as a junior and established himself as a player who can be a force all over the field.
The 2024 Women's U-20 World Championship will be the first world championships to be held in Asia since 1997 and the first world lacrosse tournament to use the new under-20 age designation for junior-level competition.
Team USA has won five of the seven women's junior world championships and reclaimed the gold medal it won in Ontario five years ago. The 2019 team featured three former Tar Heels players: Elizabeth Hillman ('23), Brooklyn Newman ('23) and Kaitlyn Wurtzberger ('24).
The United States will enter the 2024 U-20 World Championship ranked No. 1 in the world.
