Taylor Swift fans, who clearly support Donald Trump, launched the unlikely “Swifties for Trump” campaign on social media platform X on Friday night.
“Kamala's camp is starting to panic now that pro-Trump Swifties are starting to step up,” posted one X user with 294,000 followers, causing the phrase combination to trend.
“Yes, you can be a Swiftie and a Trump supporter,” wrote an X-user named @trumpswiftie. “And don't judge me.”
As the trend began to spread, Swift was busy wrapping up the most profitable music tour of all time in Europe. The “I Knew You Were Trouble” singer performed at London's Wembley Stadium on Friday night and is scheduled to perform again on Saturday. Although she has not publicly commented on November's presidential election, Swift has endorsed 2020 Democratic candidates Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
She criticized Trump's “ineffective leadership” on social media just weeks before his defeat in the last presidential election.
“He knows very well that we don't want him as president,” Swift said.
President Trump recently admitted that he finds the 34-year-old “extraordinarily beautiful” pop star attractive, but that the feeling is probably not mutual.
“[Swift]probably doesn't like Trump,” he told “The Apprentice in Wonderland” author Ramin Setoodeh in a recorded interview.
Swift's supporters, who proudly call themselves “Swifties,” are among the most passionate fanbases in pop culture, so it's no surprise to many that Swift endorsed Harris for the first female president of the United States.
A representative for Swift could not be reached for comment late Friday night.
