WESTERLY – The Westerly Mental Health Resource Center will celebrate its first anniversary in business on Aug. 23 with a special event.
Located at 68 Pierce St., the center was established in partnership with Gateway Healthcare Services. Repurposed into a former police station, the center now provides vital mental health and substance abuse services to the community.
Opening the centre was a major initiative by Westerly City Councillor Mary Sciarava. The centre is open five days a week and offers a welcoming environment.
“Thanks to a grant from Gateway Emergency Services, the centre is now staffed with specialists working two shifts to provide counselling and resources to everyone,” Sciarava said.
The Westerly Police Department will be conducting child car seat safety inspections at the one-year anniversary event, and Verizon Wireless will be providing backpacks for those in need for the upcoming school year.
