Monday
Vietnam's new leader visits China
Vietnam's newly appointed Communist Party secretary, Tho Lam, is due to visit China at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. Hanoi has said railways, agriculture, tourism and trade are on the agenda and that there will be a “frank” discussion of maritime “territorial issues” during the three-day visit, which begins Sunday. It is the first time the two leaders have met since reports emerged that Vietnam is second only to China in expanding its island presence in the South China Sea, where the two countries have disputed territorial claims.

Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa and Minister of Defense Minoru Kihara met with Indian External Affairs Minister Jaishankar and External Affairs Minister Rajnath Singh, with topics including “strengthening a free and open international order” and strengthening economic ties.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar visits India
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will visit India for the first time and meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The two first met a few years ago, but this will be Anwar's first meeting under Modi. Malaysia and India are expected to sign several agreements to strengthen trade ties.

Zero Emissions Talks
Ministers from Japan and neighboring Asian countries are attending the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) meeting in Jakarta to discuss how to develop and deploy various decarbonization technologies in the energy and transport sectors. The ministerial meeting is expected to be attended by 10 ASEAN countries, excluding Japan, Australia and Myanmar.

Taiwan Security Forum
Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs is hosting the Ketagalan Security Forum, the first since President Lai Ching-te took office in May. Speakers scheduled to attend include former Japanese prime minister Noda Yoshihiko, who is now an opposition lawmaker, and former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley.
Japan Trade Statistics
Japan is due to release trade data for July after exports rose for a seventh straight month in June and the auto industry gradually recovered from a testing scandal involving the top five automakers. Inflation figures are due to be released on Friday.
