Victorian hospital network Alfred Health digitized cancer patient health records with Oracle's Oncology EHR solution.
Why is this important?
Alfred Health has found that Oracle Oncology has been extremely helpful in streamlining pharmacy processes: Order information is pushed directly from the EHR to the pharmacy management system, and barcodes are generated for each treatment, making it easy for nurses to verify that the prescribed medication is being administered to the right patient in the right dose.
“Having cancer treatment information fully digitized and easily available in the EHR makes guiding patients through their overall treatment plans more efficient,” says Erica Tong, chief pharmacy information officer at Alfred Health.
Additionally, Oracle Oncology makes it easier to access clinical trial opportunities and allows you to track the progress of people taking part in trials.

The hospital network is working to streamline its pharmacy operations and has implemented electronic prescriptions within its EHR system, which are provided as bar codes and presented to local pharmacies for dispensing.
Alfred Health also integrated with Oracle EHR to provide access to Safescript, a nationwide, real-time prescription monitoring system, allowing clinicians to review prescription histories of patients showing signs of drug dependence.
Additionally, the hospital became one of the first in the country to connect its digital immunisation records in its EHR to a national register, the Australian Immunisation Registry.
In other related news, Northern Health, also based in Victoria, is the latest healthcare organization in the region to make the move to digital medical records with Oracle EMR. The Royal Flying Doctor Service also migrated to Oracle's cloud-based EMR system to enable near real-time sharing of critical patient medical information.
