DECATUR, Ga. – Beginning Tuesday, September 3, DeKalb Public Health’s Tucker WIC Clinic will be consolidated into four existing WIC locations across the county.
The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) provides nutrition education counseling, breastfeeding support and counseling, health and dietary assessments, and supplemental foods to eligible clients. The program serves pregnant, lactating, and postpartum women, infants, and children under age 5 who meet income criteria and are at nutritional risk.
The Tucker WIC Clinic was a freestanding clinic and did not offer other services, making it inconvenient for participants seeking other public health services.
“By consolidating WIC participants into our four existing locations, we will be able to provide a broader range of public health services to both mothers and children,” said Dr. Sandra J. Valenciano, district health director and CEO of DeKalb Public Health, “which will allow us to provide better care and a 'one-stop shop' for their medical needs.”
WIC participants using the Tucker facility have been notified of the change and will now receive services at the following facilities:
