Kyle Whittingham was the best coach in the PAC 12. Whittingham has never had a losing record at Utah in 19 seasons since 2002 was his last losing season.

2024 Utah NCAAF Featured Areas:
QB Cam Rising is due to return after missing all of last season, and solid tight end Brant Kuisse is also due to return, but he hasn't been profiled as a starter by some publications yet.
RB attrition hit Utah State surprisingly, but one of several lesser used players will likely be able to lead the way. The OL is decent but not spectacular (as in the past), which has reduced the run projection to 4.4 per carry. Utah State has had a surprisingly stable coaching setup.
I don't see any reason to deviate from their typical run defense, but pass rusher Jordan Ellis (12) has left for the NFL, the secondary will need some sophomores to step up (two DBs were drafted), and it helps that Utah faced some of the best QBs in the PAC 12 last year, including three first-round draft picks.
This young group should be fine, but it's a check for me just to be sure. The kicking is solid.
Utah Football 2024 Projected Win Total Predictions
If they go 8-1 with a split between Oklahoma State and the home game at TCU, they'll be projected to finish 10-2 or 9-3 overall. I have Kansas State rated a little higher than Utah on my grid.
Some guys (QB, TE) have to knock off the rust, and the young RB, CB, and pass rushers have to produce. I don't think this is one of their best teams, but with Whittingham at the helm, I expect them to make an impact in the Big 12 race and maybe clinch that inevitable playoff berth.

2024 Utah Football Schedule and Featured Games
Utah could start the season 3-0 before playing its first recorded Big 12 game on Sept. 21. That game will be at Oklahoma State, where a win would make Utah the favorite to win the Big 12 race.
A loss won't knock them out, but they need to bounce back with wins at home against Arizona (a terrible team last year, but they've done well at home and are playing with a new staff) and at home against a good TCU team. Keep an eye on Utah's passing D ahead of time, as this young group will be facing two good offensive teams.
The final three games are at Colorado (a big test for their defense and their record at home), at home against Iowa State (a big test for Utah's offense against one of the best defenses they will face), and at UCF (potentially a tough final game).
Utah 2024 Football Expert Handicap Tips
Utah is 55-26 against the spread as a road dog, 26-12 ATS after rest and 28-10 ATS when picked using my rush stats formula.
I didn't mention the Holy Game against BYU, but now they're playing BYU again, and it's a fierce rivalry, so I'm going to have Colorado beat Utah next week (unless that affects the rushing stats).
