ASTANA – Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev inspected refurbished sports venues for the fifth World Nomad Games (WNG), which will be held in the Kazakh capital from September 8-13.
According to the Akorda news agency, on August 20, President Tokayev visited the Astana Arena Stadium, where the opening ceremony of the international competition will be held, and the Certification Center at the Kazakhstan Athletics Stadium. President Tokayev inspected the national team uniforms for the WNG. The event also gathered 1,500 volunteers.
Kazakhstan's Minister of Tourism and Sports Yermek Marzhikpayev spoke about the national team's preparations, which have undergone 42 training camps at international and domestic levels. Kazakhstan's athletes have taken part in seven international tournaments and 25 domestic competitions.
The 5th World Judo Federation is expected to attract approximately 2,800 athletes and members of official delegations from 89 countries. Athletes will compete for 97 medals in 21 sports. The main competitions will be held at Astana Arena Stadium, Kazanat Hippodrome, Arau Ice Palace, Ushkenpilov Martial Arts Hall, Duman Hotel and Sports Complex. In addition, special venues have been set up for the Jambi Attū and Tenge Il competitions.
More than 150 cultural events will be organized in conjunction with the Games, in particular the Museum of Nomadic Civilizations, the Artisan Street and the Sculpture Exhibition will be held on the territory of the Ethnic Village.The scientific program of the WNG will include an international conference entitled “Nomads: History, Knowledge, Lessons”, to be held at the National Museum.
According to preliminary forecasts, the capital is expected to receive around 100,000 tourists during the event. More than 20 hotels and the most popular locations are almost ready to welcome foreign guests, and work on improving and decorating streets is also underway.
Tokayev also visited the Khazanat Racecourse and other sports venues.
