The WordCamp Asia organization team has extended the deadline for speaker applications until September 8, 2024. This extension is intended to give more WordPress enthusiasts the opportunity to apply to this prestigious event.
WordCamp Asia, one of the three major WordCamps, will take place from February 20-22, 2025 at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila, Philippines.
Interested speakers can choose from five session formats planned by the organizing team.
Lightning Talks (10 min talk only, no Q&A) Panel Discussion/Fireside Chat (60 min including Q&A) Long Talks (individual) (40 min – 30 min talk + 10 min Q&A) Joint Talks (2 speakers) (40 min – 30 min talk + 10 min Q&A) Workshops (90 min – half day)
All presentations must be in English and speakers may submit up to two proposals. To ensure inclusivity and diversity, the organizers aim to feature approximately 60% local (Asian) speakers and 40% non-male speakers.
Speakers can choose a variety of topics, from business and marketing, community and people, design, development to their personal WordPress stories. As the organizing team states: “Speaking at a WordCamp helps you inspire and empower others in your community. Your story might inspire someone to start their WordPress journey, tackle a challenging project, or contribute to the community in a unique way… The WordPress community values diverse perspectives and experiences, and even if you're not a seasoned expert, your story is valuable.”
The organizers have also introduced the Underrepresented Speaker Support Initiative to support potential speakers, especially those from underrepresented groups, by removing financial barriers. Speakers can receive support by emailing [email protected].
Potential speakers can also consider a 60-minute workshop created by the WordPress Diverse Speaker Training group or join the Slack channel #diverse-speaker-support in the main WordPress Slack to connect with other speakers from marginalized and underrepresented groups.
