Eight months later, Michigan again won a high-risk competition against the University of Washington football program, earning a recruiting commitment from top-100 wide receiver Andrew Marsh, who chose Michigan over Colorado, Texas, USC and the Huskies.
On Tuesday, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound player from Jordan High School in Katy, Texas, didn't hesitate to reach for one of five University of Michigan caps placed in front of him as he revealed his choice in front of his high school coaches, family and friends.
Analysts had long strongly suggested Marsh would commit to the program in Ann Arbor, and he surprised Huskies fans this summer by posing for football camp photos wearing Washington's receiving gloves.
Some had recently suggested Marsh was open to the idea of playing on the West Coast and that the Huskies were on the way, but that was all far-fetched talk.
A four-star recruit, Marsh is ranked as the No. 63 player and No. 9 receiver in the country among 2025 recruits, according to 247Sports.
Michigan is getting a playmaker out of 6A Jordan High School outside Houston who entered his senior year with 149 catches for 2,414 yards and 31 touchdowns. As a junior for a 7-4 team, Marsh had 65 catches for 1,158 yards and 15 touchdowns, plus a score on a punt return.
He told On3 some specific reasons that went into his decision: “For me, it's going somewhere that will push me educationally. I want to get into real estate, entrepreneurship, business. I want a fair chance to play fast. I just want to grow and get into the league.”
