The project aims to produce competitive green ammonia in India, a country rich in renewable energy resources.
In June, Kyushu Electric Power, Sojitz and Sembcorp signed a preliminary agreement to supply green ammonia produced from the project to various industrial customers across Japan, particularly in the Kyushu region.
The contract will leverage NYK's experience and knowledge in marine ammonia transport, and is based on the idea that approximately 200,000 tons of green ammonia will be produced per year through the project and transported to the Kyushu region to meet end-user demand.
In July, JERA Co., Inc. (hereinafter referred to as JERA) achieved the world's first bunkering of ammonia fuel using the truck-to-ship method onto an ammonia-fueled tugboat (A-Tug) operated by Nippon Yusen.
