From the Village Sun | With Kamala Harris set to officially accept the Democratic presidential nomination in Chicago tonight, local politicians in New York City are taking notice.
Tonight, two convention delegates from Downtown Manhattan, City Councilwoman Carlina Rivera and State Assemblywoman Grace Lee, are being talked about all over Fox News, in a photo that was featured in a lead story on a conservative website: “The DNC is buzzing about a big name coming out on the final night, but it's not Harris.”

The tongue-in-cheek piece slams Harris for reporting that a surprise guest may be appearing on the final night of the event (probably Beyoncé or Taylor Swift) and, judging by the excitement surrounding that performer, suggests that Harris will be… well, a supporting role.
I represent this great city and state. #DNC2024 NY is proud Kamala Harris + Tim Waltz Tickets! We must build on President Biden's historic success and continue to fight for a safer and more prosperous future for all Americans. pic.twitter.com/E1VRwDzlDp

But in an interview with Spectrum News at the convention center last night, Rivera sounded optimistic and positive.
“The energy is very, very high,” the East Village politician told Spectrum, “and of course, that platform, that message, is something we need to make sure we continue to deliver to get people to vote for us. … Our reproductive freedom is under attack… One in three women of reproductive age across the country live under an abortion ban. We have an ambitious and necessary housing platform. We need to reduce barriers at the local level to build more housing. And of course, we need a working family tax credit to support kids and people surviving this affordability crisis.”

Lee, who represents Lower Manhattan, said in a tweet that she was very proud of the two Asian-American lawmakers from her New York district, Rep. Grace Meng of Queens and Rep. Andy Kim of New Jersey, who spoke at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night.

“So excited and so proud to see both @Grace4NY and @AndyKimNJ standing on the main stage at the Democratic National Convention tonight. What a great moment for the Asian American community,” she said, adding, “I couldn't be more excited to support them!”
Another delegate, State Senator Brad Hoylman Sigal, was also interviewed at the convention.
In New York, local Democratic political clubs and politicians, including Rep. Harvey Epstein, are hosting a Democratic National Convention viewing party tonight at Mary O's, 32 Avenue A. Harris is scheduled to begin speaking at 9:30 or 10 p.m.
At about 8:15 p.m., the story featuring Rivera and Lee's photo was pushed off the top of foxnews.com's headline by a story about former presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren, who was overcome with emotion after receiving a standing ovation following her convention speech.
