SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Community leaders met with health experts and medical workers Friday to review medical needs in coastal Georgia.
St. Joseph Candler Health System produces a report every three years to help leaders identify gaps that need to be closed to help residents live healthier lives.
They worked with partners from the Georgia Coastal Indicators Coalition and medical students from the Medical College of Georgia, and solicited input from local residents.
The group's director says that as part of their training, students will collaborate on evaluations and learn about the needs of their local communities.
The assessment documents issues related to health and wellness in Chatham County, including health insurance, affordable housing, internet access, mental health, substance use, transportation and poverty.
“We have first-year medical students here who are introducing us to our community, and we want them to understand the social determinants of health that impact the health outcomes of people in Chatham County,” said Lizann Roberts, executive director of the Coastal Georgia Indicators Coalition.
They are asking for your help by filling out a survey about what you think is important locally.
