The 2024 Academic Rankings of World Universities has just been released and incorporates factors such as the number of Nobel Prize winners, the number of papers published in top journals, and a university's academic output per capita.
So who takes the crown as the best university in the world according to ARWU? A whopping 22 years in a row (22 years in a row!) – Harvard University in the United States. This is no surprise, as the university is world-renowned for its academic excellence and its role as a founding member of the Association of American Universities.
In fact, American universities almost dominate the list, taking eight of the top 10 spots. The only exceptions are the famous British universities, Cambridge and Oxford, which come in at number four and number six respectively. Find out more about the best universities in Europe here.
