The “Harnessing the Power of Nature: One Health Approaches to Acanthamoeba” session will be one of the key events of UNGA79 and will focus on the urgent response to Acanthamoeba infections, which pose a significant and growing threat to global health. The discussion will explore the epidemiology of this parasite, its mechanisms of transmission, and the latest trends in spread. Clinical cases will be reviewed, highlighting the challenges of accurate diagnosis and the importance of timely intervention.
The panel will focus on innovative therapeutics, particularly the potential of natural products in developing more sustainable treatment options. The session will also explore prevention and control measures for Acanthamoeba infections, highlighting the importance of raising awareness about its global impact.
The main objective of the panel is to foster new collaborations between experts from different disciplines and promote the development of new treatments and strategies to address this public health concern, which is aligned with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3, 6 and 17, which focus on achieving good health and well-being, ensuring clean water and sanitation, and building partnerships to achieve these goals.
