ATLANTA (AP) — Luke Williams scored from third base on a throwing error by shortstop C.J. Abrams with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Washington Nationals 3-2 on Friday night for their fifth victory in six games.
Braves closer Raisel Iglesias (3-1) pitched two innings and struck out three to get the win. He was perfect through the ninth inning, extending his consecutive strikeout streak to 38 batters before hitting Jacob Young with a pitch in the 10th. He then got out the next three Nationals batters.
The game's leadoff hitter, Michael Harris II, hit a hard grounder to shortstop in the 10th inning. Abrams caught the ball, but made a bad throw to first base, allowing Williams to score and end the game.
Eduardo Salazar (0-1) was defeated.
Atlanta's Chris Sale pitched seven innings, giving up nine hits, two runs and walking one, with his four strikeouts being his lowest of the season.
Nationals starter Mackenzie Gore gave up just one run on seven hits in six innings, striking out four and walking none while throwing 88 pitches.
Ramon Laureano had three hits for the Braves.
The Braves tied the game at 2-2 in the seventh on a Gio Urshela double, but Urshela advanced to third base on a wild pitch and scored on Orlando Arcia's sacrifice fly.
The Nationals battling back with two outs in the fourth inning took a 2–1 lead. Juan Yepes hit a slow-rolling ball fair down the third base line to reach base. Kelbert Ruiz then hit a ground-rule double to right field that Braves right fielder Jorge Soler couldn't catch and landed just inside the foul line. It was Soler's first start since injuring his hamstring on August 14. Andres Chaparro doubled to bring both runners home and give the Nationals a 2–1 lead.

The Nationals will pit right-hander Jake Irvin (9-10, 3.81 ERA) against Braves right-hander Charlie Morton (7-7, 2.29 ERA) in the second of a three-game series.
