Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said Europe needed a new peace treaty.
“As a representative of one of the main religious denominations in Belarus, it is easy for me to speak with you, because our views, the views of the leadership of Belarus and the Vatican are almost identical, especially on security issues. European security. Our positions on this issue are completely consistent. On the Ukrainian conflict, our positions are almost the same, which proves it,” the president said in Minsk during a meeting with outgoing papal ambassador to Belarus Ante Josic, News.Az reported citing BelTA.
“I completely agree with you. We have been talking about this for a long time. In order for Europe to live in peace and maintain our way of life (which in the end is not bad no matter how much we complain), we need a new peace treaty. Europe needs a new peace, if I may say so.”
“I think the activity of our Catholic Church here is not enough. European countries need strong leaders who will act first of all from the interests of their own people. They should be submissive and think about the interests of their own people, not act to please others. Unfortunately, they do not take offense at me. I do not see such leaders there,” the Belarusian leader added.
Alexander Lukashenko described Ante Jozic as an intelligent, cultured, very active and compassionate person.
“Although there are certain limitations, and there are always limitations to your position (I know this very well because I am an ambassador abroad), you have acted as a person of integrity. I am very happy to meet you today,” the head of state said.
President Lukashenko expressed his gratitude to Ante Jozic for his help in the release of 30 Belarusian citizens after the start of the special military operation in Ukraine. “I am very grateful and will not forget it,” President Lukashenko stressed.
