Marriott International has opened the Adelaide Marriott Hotel, its 600th hotel in the Asia Pacific region excluding China (APEC).
The new hotel will be Marriott International's first property in South Australia.
The Adelaide Marriott Hotel will have 285 rooms in a 14-storey tower, including 12 suites with views of the city skyline.
The building's facade is the 50-year-old Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building.
The hotel opening coincides with an increasing trend in domestic and regional travel.
“We are thrilled to celebrate the milestone of our 600th hotel opening in the region with the Adelaide Marriott Hotel, a brand named after our founding family,” said Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific ex-China, Marriott International.
“With 600 operating properties across the APEC region and nearly 400 in the pipeline, our growth trajectory is strong. Our strategy to be present wherever our customers want is further strengthened by our recently announced plans to enter the mid-scale hospitality sector, providing us with further opportunities to expand our portfolio's presence in new markets and beyond key gateway cities.”
Marriott International's flagship brand, Marriott Hotels, entered the APEC region in 1989 with the opening of the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel in Sydney.
There are currently more than 50 Marriott hotels operating in the region, with about 40 more set to open.
Marriott International employs more than 95,000 people across both managed and franchised properties in the APEC region.
By the end of this year, approximately 10 percent of Marriott International's managed employees are expected to move to new roles within the APEC region.
Earlier this month, Marriott International partnered with Zhong'an Commercial Group to launch the W Hotels brand in Hangzhou, China.
“Marriott International Opens 600th Hotel in Asia Pacific Excluding China” was originally created and published by Hotel Management Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
