ASTANA — Carlsberg plans to expand its operations in Kazakhstan and across Central Asia, it was revealed during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Alibek Quantilov and Carlsberg Kazakhstan CEO Vyacheslav Maltsev on Aug. 22.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Ministry of Investment Committee Gabidula Ospankulov and Chairman of Kazakhstan's State Enterprise KazakhInvest Erzhan Erekeyev.
Mr. Maltsev highlighted Kazakhstan's favorable investment climate and detailed Carlsberg Kazakhstan's upcoming plans to enter the soft drinks manufacturing business. The proposed project is expected to receive significant long-term investment and aims to serve the local and regional market. Potential project locations include Almaty, Turkestan Region and Shymkent city.
The company is currently in the final stages of regional investment approval and needs support and assistance to accelerate the launch and implementation of the project.
Quantilov reassured Carlsberg that Kazakhstan continues to work to create a business-friendly environment.
“We are actively working to support all investors. Our goal is to create the most favorable conditions for the success of investment projects in Kazakhstan. In this regard, we are ready to provide all necessary assistance to resolve current issues and remove other barriers,” he said.
During the meeting, the two parties also agreed to cooperate to ensure that Danish companies' products have access to the markets of neighboring countries.
Carlsberg Kazakhstan is consistently ranked among the top 50 contributors to Kazakhstan's economy. The company's investments in recent years have exceeded $213 million, highlighting its key role in Kazakhstan's beverage industry. Earlier this year, Carlsberg opened a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Almaty with an investment of $50 million. Ensuring fully local production of brewed and non-alcoholic products, the facility serves as a key hub for exports to Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Belarus.
Currently employing approximately 600 people in Almaty and more than 2,000 across its regional operations, Carlsberg Kazakhstan is committed to driving economic growth and employment opportunities in Kazakhstan.
