Adam Peters has not shown any regrets regarding the disposal of draft picks from the previous regime. He was not impressed with former head coach Ron Rivera's roster. He won't say it publicly, but his actions speak louder than words.
The most recent example was the Commanders trading wide receiver Jahan Dotson after just two seasons. Unable to adapt to the new mindset, Peters traded him to division rival Philadelphia Eagles for a fifth-round pick, a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks. It was a shocking move and showed that no one is safe except for a select few.
With just one preseason game remaining, most of the decisions have already been made, with final cuts looming, which could lead to Peters being active on the waiver wire and/or trade market depending on whether an opportunity presents itself.
There's going to be a lot of drama in the coming days, so with that in mind, here's a look at nine Commanders draft picks who could be departing the team after the team's preseason finale against the New England Patriots.
Percy Butler – Commanders S
The Washington Commanders have some tough choices to make in the safety room. Dan Quinn gave everyone a chance to shine over the summer, and the starting duo of Jeremy Chin and Quan Martin seems set. After that, it's all up to them.
There are several players vying for the backup position and a spot on the 53-man roster, with Percy Butler one of those anxiously waiting to see if he's done enough to make the team.
The arrival of undrafted free agent Tyler Owens only adds another intriguing element to the equation. Butler would likely respond well to improved coaching and make the team. At the same time, the Commanders could easily go in a different direction and pass on a draft pick for Ron Rivera if they feel it would benefit the franchise.
It's a fine line. How practice time is allocated in Washington's final preseason game will tell the tale.
