According to data obtained by Euronews, across the 35 European countries where data is available, there are more women aged 25-34 with higher education than men.
Women generally come out on top, but is this surprising? In the Nordic and Baltic countries, where the proportion of people with tertiary education is highest, women are also said to be the most educated overall.
In 2022, the average proportion of women in higher education in Europe was 47.6%, compared to just 36.5% for men.
The UK comes in seventh on the list, with 43.5% of the population opting for higher education, compared to just 38.2% in France and 31.5% in Germany.
In Europe, the number of people aged 25 to 74 with higher education is on the rise: the proportion will increase from 19.1% in 2004 to 31.8% in 2022, according to the data.
The UK is considered one of the world's top educational destinations, with Russell Group universities including the highly popular Oxford and Cambridge universities.
