Sotheby's in Dubai has unveiled the world's largest flawless GIA-certified diamond, the Golden Canary, which will tour the world before being auctioned in New York on December 7, 2022.
A 2,492-carat diamond has been discovered in South Africa, making it one of the world's largest rough diamonds ever unearthed, according to Lucara Diamond Company.
Lucara said in a statement that the diamond was detected and recovered at Lucara's Karowe mine in eastern Botswana using its Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray transmission technology.

“This discovery reinforces Karowe's position as a truly world-class diamond mine and highlights the continued success of our operations and underground development strategy,” said Lucara president and CEO William Lamb.
The gem is one of a few important gemstones discovered at the Karowe mine, which includes the 1,758-carat Sewello diamond and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona diamond.

Company officials said the diamond find represented the “unparalleled wealth” in Botswana's soil and symbolized the growth of the country's diamond industry and the benefits it would bring to the country and its people.
