For the first time in 21 years, Florida has a team competing in the Little League Baseball World Series U.S. Championship. The Lake Mary All-Stars are two wins away from winning the Little League Baseball World Series, but they must first beat Texas on Saturday when the two teams meet in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for the national title. Saturday's game will begin at 3:30 p.m. and be broadcast on ABC. If Lake Mary wins, they will advance to the finals on Sunday. It's been a busy week for Lake Mary, who will represent Florida and the Southeast Region in the Little League Baseball World Series. Their run began last week with a tough 2-1 win over South Dakota on August 14. In that game, JJ Feliciano struck out 11 batters to lead the All-Stars to their first win of the tournament. Two days later, on August 16, Lake Mary defeated Washington, 6-1, to win the championship. However, the three-game winning streak was thwarted on August 19 against Vaughn, Texas, as Lake Mary lost 4-1 and was left with a losing record. However, that loss spurred the All-Stars to another strong run. Lake Mary beat New York in the Metro Region, 6-1, on August 20. In that game, DJ Mises hit a three-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to seal the win. The next day, Lake Mary, again facing elimination, defeated Hawaii, 4-3. On Thursday, Lake Mary won its third straight game, defeating Nevada, 6-3, to advance to the United States Finals of the Little League World Series. Offensively, Lake Mary was strong, with Garrett Roehausen and Feliciano each hitting two home runs in the series. Mises had six RBIs and one home run. On the pitching side, Feliciano led the team with 18 strikeouts in 8.1 innings. Lathan Norton was second on the team with 14 strikeouts in eight innings. Lake Mary's performance in the tournament has brought the community together. Friendly Confines on County Road 46A in Lake Mary serves as the team's viewing venue.
