Lake Mary is looking to win this weekend as they prepare to face Texas on Saturday. The Lake Mary All-Stars are two games away from winning the Little League World Series. “We knew this team definitely had plenty of talent, plenty of skill and was well prepared,” coach and manager Jonathan Anderson said. “This is the ultimate tournament. You really don't get a second chance. You have to give it your all every single time, every single game, and I encourage every dad to get their kid involved in Little League and give them that opportunity.” Lake Mary Mayor David Mealer said the team's advancement to the World Series is one of the greatest things that's ever happened to the city. “No matter what the outcome is, they've already won,” Mealer said. “Look at what they've done, what they've accomplished and the joy they've brought to so many people and, frankly, the inspiration they've brought.” “Nothing says celebration like a parade,” said Brian Knipe, Lake Mary's director of parks, recreation and economic development. The city will hold a parade for the team at 10 a.m. on Aug. 31. The parade will be held down Fourth Avenue and will be hosted by WESH 2's Meredith McDonough. “They'll be led by the Lake Mary Marching Band, the Lake Mary High School Marching Band and we'll have professional mascots like the Orlando Magic,” Knipe said. “We're a really small town, and to have a team come that far, that's a big thing.” Local businesses, such as Flipper's Pizzeria on Fourth Avenue, are also supporting the team by hosting watch parties and fundraisers. In consideration of the World Series and viewing parties, the restaurant is also offering free breadsticks with the purchase of a large pizza. “Pizza and baseball are a match made in heaven,” said Gina Melianos, director of brand strategy for Flipper's Pizzeria. “We had a fundraiser here last week, and 10 percent of the restaurant's sales went to the team, so we're going to present them with that check when they come back,” Melianos said. “It's amazing and inspiring to see what the kids have accomplished, and it makes us so proud.” Saturday's game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m., and WESH 2 Sports Director Darren Stoltzfus will be covering the game live from Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
