Jannik Sinner – Defend 180 points
The top seed faces tough draws with former world number one Daniil Medvedev and potential semi-final opponent Alcaraz in the quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively, but the Italian has been a consistent performer in recent major tournaments.
Since last year's Wimbledon, he has won 24 of his 28 major matches, losing only to players ranked at least No. 2 in the world. A year ago, he lost in the fourth round to Alexander Zverev at Flushing Meadows, but beat Zverev last week in Cincinnati.
Sinner, a quarterfinalist at the 2022 U.S. Open, has previously performed well at the season-ending major tournament and is on a roll after his win in Cincinnati.
Stefanos Tsitsipas – Defend 45 points
The Greek hasn't played his best tennis recently, going 1-2 in Montreal and Cincinnati, and has never made it past the third round in New York.
But with just 45 points to defend, Tsitsipas has the potential to bring in plenty of net points for his team. The 2019 Nitto ATP Finals winner has enjoyed a successful career at hard-court Grand Slams, reaching the 2023 Australian Open final and three more semi-finals. If he returns to form, keep an eye on the 26-year-old Tsitsipas as he takes on Thanasi Kokkinakis in the first round.
Holger Rune – Defend the 10 points
A week ago, Loon reached the semifinals in Cincinnati, beating Francis Tiafoe in a final-set tiebreaker to reach the final, with the Dane showing signs of the tennis that saw him rise to world number four last year.
The 21-year-old Rene has reached at least the fourth round at every major tournament except the U.S. Open, where he reached the third round in 2022. Rene, who will face Brandon Nakashima in the first round, is looking to change that this year by progressing further up the field.
Bonus Ball – Jannik Sinner
While there are players defending fewer points than Sinner, the world number one is a good option to double the tournament's net points.
The Italian has a 48-5 record this season and has won five titles, the most on the ATP Tour. He has reached the quarterfinals of major tournaments so far. If he reaches the quarterfinals in New York, he will receive extra points. If he wins his second major tournament in 2024, he will receive 1,820 points. That will double his total to 3,640 points, making it a big week for the team.
