The Vaughn All-Stars will play in the third-place game of the Little League World Series on Sunday.
WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — The Vaughn Little League All-Star team lost 10-7 to Lake Mary, Fla., in the U.S. finals of the Little League World Series on Saturday.
They will next play Venezuela in the third-place match on Sunday at 9 a.m. CDT.
It was Borne's first trip to Williamsport, but they came out strong, scoring nine points and not allowing a single point in their first game of the tournament.
The combination of strong hitting and an ace on the mound proved to be the biggest difference between Bern and their opponents, outscoring them 18-3 in their first three games.
On Saturday, they faced a Florida team that was on a roll after winning three straight elimination games.
The fun started in the second inning, when Jett Matthews scored on a passed ball with the bases loaded, then Caleb Crist hit a rocket over the first baseman for the second run of the inning.
In the third inning, Doc Mogford hit a two-run double to extend the lead to 4-0.
Florida's offense picked up steam in the fourth inning, cutting the lead to 4-1. Florida battled back and came back with a strong fifth inning after Teraj Alexander stole home to take a 5-4 lead.
With two outs in the bottom of the fifth, Gray Collins tied the game with a bases-loaded RBI single, and Borne battled back, taking advantage of two passed balls by Florida to take the lead again at 7-5.
In the final inning, Florida loaded the bases with no outs and scored two runs to tie the game, but then scored three more runs on a two-out double to make the score 10-7 by Bowen's final at-bat.
Vaughn reached first base in the bottom of the sixth, but a double play ended the game and sent Florida to the finals.
