GULFPORT, Miss. (WLOX) – Shoppers at Ruth's in Gulfport Saturday afternoon were hoping for a healthy treat.
Memorial Health culinary medicine specialist Dr. Kelly Scott taught shoppers that a healthier lifestyle starts in the kitchen.
He prepared a dish with smoked turkey, salmon, spinach and other vegetables.
“I've been a chef my whole life, so I know how important it is to cook healthy meals for my patients,” says Dr. Scott. “I see a lot of patients with diabetes and high blood pressure in my clinic, so I do my best to educate my patients and the community about the importance of healthy eating.”
Dr Scott says there are many benefits to watching what you eat.
“One of the benefits of a healthy diet is that it can reduce your risk of developing diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and even some cancers,” Dr Scott said.
This is the first time Memorial Health has partnered with Rouses to host such an event.
