Momos have been a beloved street food in Delhi for decades. Over the years, from steamed to deep-fried, tandoori to gravy, momos have evolved along with foodies. But a new kind of momo found on the streets of Delhi is sparking disgust and anger on the internet: dried fruit paneer momos.
A video surfaced on social media of a food blogger discovering a stall selling these momos. The video begins with the blogger holding a plate full of dried fruits like almonds, cashews, pistachios and raisins, asking the stall if he can make them for her. The stall guarantees that they make the best momos.
The seller starts by melting butter in a frying pan and frying all the dried fruits. Next, he adds chopped onions, carrots and peppers, frying for a few seconds, then adds a generous amount of mayonnaise and liquid cheese. But his work doesn't end there.
The waiter adds cream and oregano to the gravy and finally mixes the fried momos together. He tops the plates with chopped almonds before serving them to the bloggers. The “special” dry fruit momos are priced at Rs 240 a plate.
