Danilo Gallinari wants another NBA contract.
The 6-foot-10 floor-spacing No. 4 is a free agent after spending last season with the Wizards, Pistons (waived) and Bucks. After missing all of 2022-23 while recovering from a torn ACL, he averaged 5.7 points and shot 32.3% from three-point range last season. Is an offer in store at 36 years old?
Gallinari discussed the matter with Italy's La Repubblica newspaper (provided by BasketNews).
“Returning to Italy? Not yet,” Gallinari said.
“There's still time in the market for me. Anything can happen. Miami? It's not my time yet. There are other free agents out there so I'll decide later. Any team that's competitive is fine with me,” Gallinari said.
Gallinari was used sparingly in Milwaukee last season after scoring and helping weaker teams in Washington and Detroit, but a string of injuries in the playoffs forced him into a bigger role (where he played better than expected). What's clear through all of this is that Gallinari, weakened after an ACL injury, was already an older player and didn't fit well with Milwaukee, who needed his athleticism more than another slow veteran.
Injuries or other circumstances could open up a spot and Gallinari could get a call, but he's already been training preseason with Italian Serie B team Treviglio, increasing the odds he'll stay in his home country and play this season. Gallinari can afford to wait.
