Trump's comments come amid rising tensions in the Middle East after the Israeli military launched preemptive strikes on what it called “terror targets in Lebanon” that it identified as Hezbollah “preparing to fire missiles and rockets at Israeli territory.” Hezbollah has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless.” Read more
Former US President Donald Trump has sharply criticised the Joe Biden administration's approach to the West Asia situation. Trump also questioned the Biden administration, saying Biden was sleeping on a beach in California while Vice President Kamala Harris was on a campaign bus tour with his running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.
In a post on X, Trump said, “Who's negotiating for us in the Middle East? Bombs are falling everywhere! Sleepy Joe is sleeping on a California beach while being brutally exiled by the Democrats and Comrade Kamala is on a campaign bus tour with her truly awful pick of VP candidate Tampon Tim. Let's not start World War III because that's where we're headed!”

His comments came after Iran-backed Hezbollah said on Sunday it had launched a flurry of drone and rocket attacks on Israel in retaliation for the killing of its top commander outside Beirut last month. Despite the fiercest exchange of blows between the two sides in months, Israel and Hezbollah have since signalled a willingness to de-escalate.
Earlier, Trump said on Thursday, “There is no future with Comrade Kamala Harris because she will lead us into Nuclear World War III! She will never be respected by the tyrants of the world!”
According to The Washington Post, Trump made the remarks after Harris spoke about the Gaza war during her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. Trump took to his Truth social media account to denounce Harris' speech.
“I will always defend Israel's right to defend itself and I will always ensure that Israel can defend itself, because the Israeli people must never again face the horror unleashed by a terrorist organization called Hamas,” Harris said in her speech, according to The Washington Post, and also highlighted the widespread suffering of the Palestinians.
Earlier in the day, Israel declared a state of emergency for the next 48 hours amid rising tensions with Lebanon. Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant declared the state of emergency, which was issued as a “national emergency” and allows the IDF Home Front Command to impose restrictions.
In a state of emergency, the legal term “extraordinary situation” is used to give authorities powers over civilians and streamline efforts to protect them. The term lasts for 48 hours unless extended by ministers.
