Former US President and Republican candidate Donald Trump has slammed the Biden administration's response to the escalating Middle East conflict, claiming that President Joe Biden is “sleeping on a beach in California” while Vice President Kamala Harris is busy campaigning amid rising tensions in the Middle East.
In a post on X, Trump questioned the effectiveness of U.S. diplomacy and pointed to President Joe Biden's lack of engagement.
“Who's negotiating for us in the Middle East? Bombs are falling everywhere! Sleepy Joe was brutally kicked out of the Democratic Party and is sleeping on a California beach. Comrade Kamala is on a campaign bus tour with her really bad pick of a running mate, Tampon Tim. Please don't start World War III, that's what we're heading for!” Trump said.
Trump's comments come as the Middle East faces severe tensions following a series of military actions involving Israel and Hezbollah.
Over the past few days, the Israeli military has carried out heavy airstrikes targeting Hezbollah rocket launchers and military facilities in Lebanon, reportedly in response to an imminent threat from Hezbollah that it is preparing to launch missiles at Israeli territory.
But Hezbollah has strongly denied these allegations as baseless, and has since launched retaliatory attacks in what it called a “first phase” in response to Israel's actions.
Amid rising tensions, Israel declared a 48-hour state of emergency in response to the ongoing violence, the IDF launched a series of airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions and warned Lebanese civilians in southern Lebanon of possible retaliation.
Earlier, President Trump had expressed dissatisfaction with Vice President Kamala Harris, criticising her handling of the conflict.
In a recent speech at the Democratic National Convention, Harris made clear her commitment to Israel's right to defend itself and condemned the actions of the militant group Hamas in the Gaza Strip. She stressed the need for Israel to be able to defend itself, while also acknowledging the widespread suffering of the Palestinian people.
But Trump expressed his opposition on his Truth Social account, suggesting Harris' policies could lead the United States into a broader and more dangerous conflict.
