Jenna Ortega revealed that she closed her X account after receiving explicit AI-generated images of her as a teenager.
The actress revealed the disturbing reason for her withdrawal from the role on The New York Times podcast, “The Interview.”
“I hate AI,” she said. “Was I 14 and I made a Twitter account because I had to, and I loved looking at salacious edited content of myself as a child? No. It's horrifying. It's corrupting. It's wrong.”
Ortega said he hoped to use it to further his career but what he experienced proved too problematic, revealing that he received photos of men's genitals when he was just 12 years old.
“I used to have a Twitter account, and people were like, 'Yeah, go ahead and create your own image,'” Ortega said. “I ended up deleting it a couple of years ago because after my Wednesday show, I started seeing a ton of crazy images and pictures and it was just crazy, so I deleted it.”
To protect herself in a career where everyone is constantly talking about or to her, the actress revealed that she avoids her phone as much as possible, preferring to be outside instead.
“I'm always walking,” she revealed. “If I'm not at work or in a meeting, wondering if my parents are wondering what I'm doing, I'm outside taking a walk. I'm in a garden somewhere, or lying down in a field, or taking a nap.”
A few days ago, Ortega appeared in Sabrina Carpenter's “Taste” music video, playing a woman competing with Carpenter for her “beloved boyfriend” (played by Halloween Ends actor Rohan Campbell).
Directed by Dave Meyers, the two women vie for power in a bloody, murderous revenge fantasy that pays homage to films like The Deathly Hallows (1992) and Psycho (1960).
After multiple attempts to finish each other off, the two women lock lips in a surprise kiss, after which Ortega attacks her boyfriend with a chainsaw.
At the funeral, Ortega and Carpenter recalled the “trauma” he inflicted on them and how “insecure” he had been during his life.
