Rejoice, AFC Richmond fans! It looks like “Ted Lasso” will be getting a fourth season after all.
Warner Bros. Television is taking steps to continue the hit series for Apple TV+ after the show's fate was left uncertain by the Season 3 finale. The Los Angeles Times confirmed on Sunday that the studio has picked up options on three main cast members, who are represented by British entertainers' union Equity: Hannah Waddingham (as Rebecca Walton), Jeremy Swift (as Leslie Higgins) and Brett Goldstein (as Roy Kent).
The Times has reached out to Warner Bros. Television, Apple TV+ and representatives for several cast members for comment. Deadline first reported the news.
The studio will next approach actors who are members of the US actors' union SAG-AFTRA, including Juno Temple (Keely Jones), Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard) and Ted Lasso himself, Jason Sudeikis.
Deadline reported that other key actors, including Phil Dunster (who plays Jamie Tartt), may not return due to scheduling conflicts.
According to Deadline, a writing team for season 4 is also being put together, with production tentatively scheduled to begin in 2025.
In “Ted Lasso,” Sudeikis plays a goofy, endearingly kind-hearted American football coach who moves to England to manage a professional soccer team, despite knowing almost nothing about the sport.
The acclaimed sports comedy has won 13 Emmy Awards since it first aired in August 2020. The show's third season, which was once rumored to be its final one, concluded last May.
In June 2023, Hunt, the “Ted Lasso” actor and executive producer/co-creator, revealed to The Times that Apple CEO Tim Cook once visited the set of the show and said, “Thank you for all your work. I really hope there's a Season 4.”
“Everything is on the table right now, including nothing,” Hunt said at the time.
“For us, it's something we've been working full-on for a long time, so we'll step away for a little bit, take a break, and then we'll come back together and see if something else comes up.”
