Skyscanner recently partnered with OnePoll to conduct a survey of adults in Asia Pacific who are planning or have already had their weddings to uncover key considerations around weddings, particularly destination weddings, and related activities such as honeymoons and pre-wedding events.
The study surveyed 2,000 respondents from Australia, 2,000 from India, 1,000 from Singapore and 1,000 from South Korea. All respondents were aged 18 or over.
Respondents from India, Singapore and South Korea prefer to have their wedding in an Asian location such as Thailand (pictured).
Key findings from the region indicate strong interest in international weddings in the region, with over 68% of adults aged 18+ having either already had or are considering an international wedding, with India leading the trend.
When it comes to attending an overseas wedding as a guest, 74% of Indians and 52% of Singaporeans said they have done so in the past, while 61% of South Koreans and 56% of Australians have yet to attend an overseas wedding.
When it comes to budget, around 30% say they are ready to invest 26-50% more in an international wedding compared to a traditional local ceremony.
On the planning side, roughly one-third of respondents said they are using social media to plan their destination wedding, and over 20% of respondents in each market are considering using OTAs, although a smaller percentage are turning to travel metasearch engines or AI-powered search tools.
When it comes to location choice, Asia Pacific adults prioritize regions closer to home, with respondents in India, Singapore and South Korea preferring Asia, and Australian respondents selecting Oceania as their first choice.
