Marriott International has announced its 600th hotel opening in Asia Pacific Excluding China (APEC) with the opening of the Adelaide Marriott Hotel. Paying tribute to the company's flagship brand, the opening marks Marriott International's first hotel in South Australia and underlines the company's focus on expanding its presence in emerging tourism destinations.
Facing the 150-year-old landmark Adelaide General Post Office (GPO) building, the Adelaide Marriott Hotel is a 14-storey tower with 285 rooms, including 12 suites. The opening coincides with a trend of domestic and regional travellers seeking experiences in destinations closer to home.
Marriott Hotels is Marriott International's flagship brand and has a proud tradition rooted in family values since its founding in 1957. The first Marriott hotel in the APEC region was the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, which opened at Circular Quay in Sydney in 1989. There are currently more than 50 Marriott hotels operating in the region with nearly 40 in the pipeline.
“The Adelaide Marriott Hotel is a brand that bears our founding family's name and we are thrilled to reach the milestone of our 600th hotel in the region,” said Rajeev Menon, president, Asia Pacific ex China, Marriott International. “With 600 properties in operation across the APEC region and nearly 400 in the pipeline, we remain on a strong growth trajectory. Our strategy to be present wherever our guests want is further strengthened by our recently announced plans to enter the mid-scale hospitality segment, providing us with further opportunities to expand our portfolio into new markets and beyond key gateway cities.”
Marriott International's growth strategy includes a focus on giving back to the communities in which it operates, driving long-term economic impact. With more than 95,000 employees in both managed and franchised properties in the region, Marriott International has created job opportunities and nurtured the next generation of talent. By the end of 2024, approximately 10 percent of Marriott International's managed employees will have new roles within APEC.
