Sean “Diddy” Combs on Monday asked a federal court to dismiss a lawsuit filed by a music producer that makes widespread allegations of sexual abuse and other misconduct by the music mogul. Court filings filed by Combs' team on Monday say Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones' lawsuit is full of “fiction,” “exaggeration and salacious theatrics” and has only the purpose of generating publicity and settlements. The suit is one of numerous that have filed against Combs in the past year alleging sexual assault. Combs is also the subject of a criminal investigation into sex trafficking and has been the subject of a leaked video of him beating his former music protégé, longtime lover Cassie.
Authorities have arrested a former sheriff's deputy who shot and killed a black airman in his home.
FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida sheriff's deputy accused of killing a black senior U.S. Air Force airman who was pointing a handgun at the ground when he answered the door to his apartment has been arrested. Prosecutors announced Friday that former Okaloosa County sheriff's deputy Eddie Duran, 38, has been charged with negligent homicide with a firearm in the May 3 shooting death of 23-year-old Roger Fortson, a first-degree felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison. Duran was booked into the county jail on Monday, records show. Fortson had answered deputies knocking on his Fort Walton Beach apartment door with the handgun pointed at the floor.

BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox catcher Danny Jansen took the field in Boston for the restart of a rain-posted game he started in Toronto in June, becoming the first player in major league history to play in the same game for both teams. Jansen was at bat as catcher for the Blue Jays in the second inning when the game was stopped on June 26. Jansen, who was traded to the Red Sox last month, took over as catcher on Monday when pinch-hitter Dalton Barshaw started.

According to auto club AAA, domestic travel bookings are up 9% over the same period last year, while international travel is down 4%. Motorists and air travelers are enjoying price benefits as gasoline and airfares are down slightly from last year's sky-high levels.
U.S. national parks receive record $100 million in donations
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The official nonprofit organization of the National Park Service is set to receive the largest grant in the service's history. The fundraising group calls the $100 million donation transformative for America's national parks. The National Park Foundation was created by Congress in the 1960s to support national parks. The foundation receives the donation from the Lilly Endowment, an Indianapolis-based foundation. The park foundation said Monday that the donation is the largest grant ever to benefit a U.S. national park. The money will be used to address needs at the nation's more than 400 national parks.
Sven-Goran Eriksson, the Swedish football coach who was the first foreigner to manage England, has died aged 76
Sven-Goran Eriksson, the Swedish soccer manager who spent five years as England's first foreign coach, has died. He was 76. His agent, Bo Gustafsson, told The Associated Press that Eriksson died Monday at home surrounded by his family. His death came eight months after he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and said he had a year to live. “Svenis,” as he was affectionately known in his native Sweden, had a modest playing career and then a nomadic coaching career that culminated with his recruitment by England in 2001. Within months, he had led an underachieving team to a stunning 5-1 victory over Germany in a World Cup qualifier in Munich.
Remembering Alabama high school football player who died after being injured during a game
SELMA, Ala. (AP) — A memorial has been held for an Alabama high school football player who died after sustaining serious injuries during a game. Morgan Academy quarterback Kaden Tellier was injured while being tackled in the third quarter of Friday night's game against Southern Academy in Selma. Tellier, a 16-year-old junior, was taken to a University of Alabama at Birmingham hospital where he later died. Students, parents and teachers dressed in the school's maroon and gold colors gathered for a memorial service Monday in the school gym. The boy's father, Jamie Tellier, thanked the crowd for the outpouring of love his family has received.
French DJ and LGBTQ+ icon carries Paralympic torch in defiance of hate at Olympic ceremonies
PARIS (AP) — French performer Barbara Bucci carried the Paralympic torch on Sunday night in defiance of being targeted with hate speech over her appearance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The popular DJ and LGBTQ+ icon filed a formal lawsuit alleging online abuse, saying she received online harassment, death threats and insults after her July 26 performance at the Olympics opening ceremony. Five other artists and performers, including the opening ceremony's artistic director Thomas Joly, have filed similar lawsuits. By carrying the Paralympic torch onstage at the Paris music event, Bucci said she chose to “not be afraid of being in public.”
Icelandic police call off search after ice cave collapse that killed one, say no one missing
LONDON (AP) — Icelandic police have called off the search for two tourists originally thought to be missing after an ice cave collapse killed one and seriously injured the other. Police say they no longer believe anyone is missing. Icelandic authorities said they called off the search after checking tour company records and found that only 23 people had been on the tour, not 25 as originally thought. One person was killed and one seriously injured when the ice cave collapsed shortly before 3 p.m. local time. Both victims were American nationals, police said.
