New improvements to the Bond Community Health Centre are nearing reality.
“I thought it would take a little longer. Again, I commend the commissioners and all of you.”
I'm Terry Gilliam, a reporter in Southwest Tallahassee.
City commissioners unanimously approved the clinic's grant request.
“If you take something, give something back!”
That's the message Roger Fisher shared after his CVS Pharmacy in southwest Tallahassee closed in June.
At the time, I told you about plans for the Bond Community Health Clinic, located about a mile and a half from the old CVS.
The plans called for three phases of exterior and interior renovations, including a drive-thru pharmacy.
Now, work is underway to meet the needs of Southwest Neighbors.
At the Aug. 22 City Hall meeting, commissioners approved the grant request for $159,714.
The funding will allow the Tallahassee Regional Redevelopment Authority to assist with the exterior portion of the project.
“I commend them for going ahead and doing it and seeing it through.”
Neighbors like Fisher have a different attitude in this day and age. He told me how this measure will affect the people who live here.
“A lot of people are going to be really happy to hear that. They're going to be excited because we have a drive-thru so people with disabilities don't have to go through the trouble of going in and they can just pick it up.”
The total cost of the three-phase project will be approximately $865,000.
Temple Robinson, a physician with Bond Health, knows what it takes to make the plan a reality.
In addition to potential funding from the CRA, Bond also plans to tap grant funding from Sentara Healthcare and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
“This pharmacy has a retail license, so you do not need to register as a patient to use our services.”
Neighbors in the area say it's a first step toward approval.
“I'm glad they pushed through and got it resolved!”
Exterior renovations funded by the Tallahassee CRA will also include an $80,000 facade. Terry Gilliam, Southwest Tallahassee, ABC27.
