Palestinian officials said at least five people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on a refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the attack on the Nur Shams base near the city of Tulkarm, saying it targeted what it said was a command center for a “terrorist organization.”
Meanwhile, the Palestinian Authority said one person was killed and three wounded in an attack by Israeli settlers near Bethlehem. The Israel Defense Forces said it was investigating the report.
Violence in the West Bank has soared since the war in Gaza began with a deadly Hamas attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said last Wednesday that 128 Palestinians, including 26 children, had been killed in airstrikes in the West Bank since October 7.
It added that as of August 19, 607 Palestinians had been killed in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, seven of them by Israeli settlers.
The news agency added that 10 Israelis were also killed in attacks by Palestinians in the West Bank.
The Nur Shams refugee camp has been the target of Israeli Defense Forces attacks in recent months.
In April, the Palestinian Red Crescent said 14 people had been killed in a two-day Israeli operation.
Then in July, the IDF bulldozed the camp's main street.
In a second attack near Bethlehem on Monday, Palestinian media reported that dozens of Israeli settlers entered the village of Wadi Rahal and attacked residents.
Palestinian officials said the settlers shot and killed a 40-year-old Palestinian man and wounded at least three others.
Since capturing the West Bank and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Middle East war, Israel has built about 160 settlements and is home to around 700,000 Jews in the areas that Palestinians want as part of their future state.
Most of the international community considers the settlements to be in violation of international law, but Israel disputes this.
