The director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) will participate in a virtual discussion at VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Facts & Faith Fridays from 3 to 4 p.m., Sept. 20. Monica M. Bertagnoli, MD, will share details about her new role and NIH’s 2024 priorities.
As NIH director, Dr. Bertagnoli oversees the operations of the world's largest funder of biomedical and behavioral research. She is the first surgeon general and second woman to hold the position. Prior to becoming NIH director, Dr. Bertagnoli served as director of the National Cancer Institute.
Bertagnolli's priorities for the NIH include increasing diversity in clinical trial participants, embracing the expansion of new learning-based analytical tools, restoring trust in science by making it accessible to all communities, and strengthening collaboration among the 27 NIH institutes and centers.
Co-founded by community leaders Louden Mercer Haynes, Rev. F. Todd Gray, and Massey Director Robert A. Winn, M.D., the “Fact & Faith Fridays” program was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and continues to serve the community under the leadership of founders Rev.
