Truckee Meadows Community College's Diesel Technology Program received a donation of a fully functional 597 model heavy-duty truck equipped with a PACCAR MX engine from two local heavy-duty truck dealerships on Wednesday afternoon.
Longtime heavy-duty truck dealers Peterbilt Truck Parts & Equipment and Silver State International are sponsors of TMCC's diesel technology program.
They are committed to training the next generation of diesel mechanics.
The donation took place at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28, at TMCC’s William N. Pennington Applied Technology Center, 475 Edison Way in Reno.
A spokesperson for the event said both dealerships chose to donate the trucks to provide the program with the advanced tools students need to learn how to work with the associated brands and products most commonly used in the heavy truck industry.

The PACCAR engine is said to be the first heavy-duty truck engine to use the diesel industry's B10 design, which means 90 percent of the engines can go more than a million miles without a major overhaul.
