Scottie Scheffler has been tipped as a future superstar since his amateur days in Texas, but over the past 30 months, his star has never been higher. After winning his first title at the 2022 World Tour Phoenix Open, Scheffler now enters the 2024 Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club as a world No. 1 for the past 67 weeks, a 12-time PGA Tour winner, a two-time Masters champion and an Olympic gold medalist. But he's still chasing a FedEx Cup victory that has eluded him the past two years. The match kicks off at 11:16 a.m. ET on Thursday.
Scheffler will enter the 2024 Tour Championship two strokes behind Xander Schauffele as a reward for his six-win season, making him the +110 favorite to win the 2024 Tour Championship. However, he's been in the same position the past two seasons and failed to win. Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been immensely popular since the PGA Tour returned in June 2020. In fact, the model has made over $9,500 on its top bet since the restart, winning tournament after tournament.
This same model had already predicted 13 majors by the end of the week, including the 2024 Masters (a third consecutive Masters), this year's PGA Championship and the U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed the model has made huge profits.
With the Tour Championship 2024 now confirmed to take place, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results are astounding: Visit SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top predictions for the 2024 Tour Championship
What may be surprising is that Collin Morikawa (35-1) is on a strong run to the title. Morikawa has a much better chance of winning than the odds suggest, making him a good target for anyone looking to win big money. The 27-year-old Californian will have to make up a six-stroke deficit at the start of the tournament, but it's possible, as Rory McIlroy overcame a five-stroke deficit to win the Tour Championship and FedEx Cup in 2019.
Morikawa finished fourth in gross scores at East Lake last season and has played great golf since then, earning his sixth career PGA TOUR victory at the 2023 Zozo Championship in the fall and adding six top-five finishes, including a tie for third at the Masters in 2024. East Lake is the home course of Bobby Jones, who designed Augusta National Golf Club and took heavy inspiration from the country club near Atlanta in designing Augusta.
The model also looks at Schauffler's (+110) ranking. Schauffler has been a mainstay in golf this year, with six PGA Tour wins (including his second green jacket) and an Olympic gold medal, but that advantage doesn't always pay off in this format. Schauffler holds a slim two-stroke lead over Schauffele, but in recent years that advantage has proven to disappear quickly in four-round tournaments with no cut.
Scheffler leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained per round (2.487) this year, and his excellent ball-striking should be an asset at East Lake. But it just hasn't worked out, and he's finished 13th or worse in four rounds at East Lake each of the past three seasons, not counting starting strokes. He's also finished outside the top 30 in two of his past six worldwide starts. The model has locked in its picks here for the Scottie Scheffler Tour Championship.
How to choose the 2024 Tour Championship
The model also targets four other golfers with odds of 28-to-1 or better to win the title. Bet on these longshots and you could hit the big time. See the model's predictions exclusively here.
