All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer is set to return home from his stint with Lancashire in England for the domestic season-opening Duleep Trophy and the county side shared a fun-filled video of a 'This or That' segment on social media.
Iyer played five List A matches for the club in the One-Day Cup and one first-class match against Surrey in the County Championship, but it was an unmemorable one and came to an end in Lancashire's next game.
His scores in five One-Day Cup matches were 15, 4, 9, 15 and 25, and he took three wickets. In the match against County against Surrey, he recorded scores of 4 and 15. But Iyer appeared in good spirits during an entertaining video session, where he was asked to choose one of two players in a row.
Having travelled to England on the recommendation of his Kolkata Knight Riders teammate Phil Salt, Iyer unsurprisingly picked Salt in almost every match-up he was asked to play in. Those he did not select were dropped one after the other.
Ultimately, the combination came down to a choice between Brendon McCullum and MS Dhoni and Iyer had no hesitation in replying, “MS Dhoni.”
Later, Dhoni's name came up against Virat Kohli and Iyer stayed by Dhoni's side.
But when Dhoni's name was floated alongside Sachin Tendulkar, the Indian players were left a bit taken aback. Iyer was silent for a few seconds, smiled and then said: “Mr Dhoni.”
Iyer established himself as a formidable top-order batsman during the Indian Premier League season of 2021. His stellar performances in that season earned him a call-up for India's white-ball international matches.
In addition to his prowess with the bat, Iyer also possesses valuable skills as a seam bowler.
