Nissan Motor Co. is making the most of smart technology to reduce traffic accidents in China, one of its largest markets.
Seigo Watanabe, deputy general manager of Nissan's AD/ADAS and Chassis Control Systems Engineering Division, said the company is conducting road tests using V2E technology to improve safe driving and road safety.
He made the remarks at the 18th China Road Safety Forum in Beijing on Tuesday.
Watanabe said relevant tests were being conducted in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, adding that combined with local infrastructure, V2X technology could overcome the limitations of intelligent connected cars.
He said Nissan has continually pushed the boundaries of advanced driver-assistance technology, from ProPilot in 2016 to version 2.0 in 2019.
The technology is already installed in some Nissan models sold in China, including the Pathfinder.
Nissan is developing a new technology called “Ground Truth Perception” that uses next-generation LIDAR, and the technology development is scheduled to be completed in the second half of this decade.
Niikura Osamu, vice president of Nissan (China) Investment Co., Ltd., said that as one of the first global automakers to enter China, Nissan has participated in the China Road Safety Forum for 18 consecutive years.
He said Nissan is partnering with local companies and organizations to conduct tests on ADAS and autonomous driving and publish the results to reduce traffic accidents and make transportation safer, convenient and sustainable.
