New Delhi:
India's financial capital Mumbai has emerged as the “billionaire capital of Asia” with more billionaires than China's capital Beijing, according to the 2024 Hurun India Rich List.
Mumbai saw an increase of 58 billionaires, taking the total number of billionaires on the list to 386.
“Mumbai, home to 25 per cent of those on the list, has not only overtaken Beijing as Asia's billionaire capital, but is also the preferred city of those on the Hurun India Rich List, followed by New Delhi and Hyderabad,” the Hurun List data said.
Following Mumbai among the top cities to live in in the 2024 edition of the Hurun India Rich Listers is Delhi, which added 18 new billionaires, taking the total number of people on the rich list to 217.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad has made a big leap forward, overtaking Bengaluru for the first time to become the third most populous city in terms of number of wealthy residents, reported The Economic Times.
With 17 new billionaires, Hyderabad's total number of billionaires now stands at 104, followed by Bengaluru in the fourth position with the 100 richest people.
Other cities that made it into the top 10 include Chennai (82nd), Kolkata (69th), Ahmedabad (67th), Pune (53rd), Surat (28th) and Gurugram (23rd).
“The epicenter of Asian billionaires”
In March of this year, the Hurun World Rich List 2024 noted that Mumbai had overtaken Beijing to emerge as the “billionaire capital of Asia.”
According to the list, Mumbai had 92 billionaires, surpassing Beijing's 91. Notably, India's financial capital gained 26 new ultra-rich individuals with a combined wealth of $445 billion, while the Chinese capital lost 18.
“Mumbai is the world's fastest growing billionaire city, adding 26 billionaires in the past year, making it the third-largest billionaire city in the world and Asia's largest. New Delhi has entered the top 10 for the first time,” the earlier report said.
Mumbai currently ranks third in the world for the number of billionaires, after New York (119) and London (97).
