CATTARAUGUSS — When Cattaraugus-Little Valley Central School students return to school Tuesday, they will be greeted with a new superintendent, David Foster, and several state-of-the-art technology upgrades made possible by the SMART Schools Bond Act.
Foster will become Cattaraugus-Little Valley (CLV) superintendent on September 1, succeeding Dr. Sharon Huff, who has served as superintendent since 2015. Huff previously served as superintendent of the Wellsville Central School District until August 26.
Mr Foster has dedicated his teaching career to rural education for the past 25 years. In his welcome back-to-school address to CLV students, Mr Foster said he understands the unique strengths that rural communities can offer and the close-knit relationships that form within positive, vibrant schools that act as the heart of their communities.
“I am committed to building on the already strong foundation at Cattaraugus-Little Valley Schools. Working together, we can ensure our students continue to receive the highest quality education,” he said.
Foster said he is passionate about career and technical education, which he has actively supported through his work with Cattaraugus-Allegany BOCES. He said applied learning engages students while providing them with the skills they need for future success.
Huff said the new metal shop will feature state-of-the-art equipment, expand welding and metal fabrication courses and serve as a pathway for students seeking future learning opportunities at BOCES or in the workplace.
The Technology Department has been busy this summer enhancing campus to improve safety, communication and efficiency.
According to the school's latest newsletter, the educational technology classrooms have been upgraded: In the large group instruction room, outdated projectors have been replaced with new large-screen interactive displays to enhance presentations and group activities, making for a more engaging and dynamic learning experience.
Enhanced safety features include blue lights in hallways and VU Alert screens in both hallways and classrooms. Blue lights provide an immediate visual warning in the event of an emergency, ensuring a rapid response.
VU Alert Screens display real-time information and important updates, keeping everyone informed and safe. These screens also replace traditional clocks in classrooms, adding a modern feel to students' learning environment.
The campus public address system has been upgraded to seamlessly integrate with the district's telephone and security systems, making emergency communications more effective and ensuring messages are conveyed quickly and clearly throughout the school.
The school partnered with Apptegy to develop a new website and app to make it easier for the school community to stay connected. The app makes the website easier to navigate, especially events and lunch menus, and gives parents and others in the school community instant access to important information.
These new tools will improve students' educational experiences, empowering school districts to create safer, more efficient and connected learning environments.
